Belfast’s West Coast Cooler FASHIONWEEK returns for SS17

As you lot know I’d taken a bit of a hiatus from the blogging world last year. As such I’m delighted to be back not only with a new blog but ready to once again take on the biggest fashion celebration in the Northern Ireland events calendar – West Coast Cooler FASHIONWEEK.

The schedule for the four day Spring/Summer fashion festival was announced at the launch event I attended on Thursday. I know lots of you were following the launch live via my snapchat, instagram and facebook so you’ll have already got a sneak peak of the styles and trends to expect on the catwalk this season, which designers and boutiques will be showcasing and some of the key dates to get in your diary.

Taking place from 23-26 March at venues across the city, the busy schedule sees the return of the sell-out high street and designer runway shows alongside popular fashion fringe events Sushi Saturday at Asian favourite Zen, as well as Style Sunday – which this season is held at Coco on Mother’s Day for the perfect day out for a stylish mum. Budding new events include the stylish Lavazza Coffee Style Saturday brunch at Robinson & Cleaver on Saturday 25 March. This event offers the ultimate fashion filter with key looks from across the fashion spectrum selected by some of the country’s top stylists including Courtney Smith and Cool FM’s Rebecca McKinney as well as London-based Jamie Russell and Lewis Cameron.

A make up masterclass courtesy of FASHIONWEEK’s new title make up sponsor, KARAJA is also planned while hair partners ALFAPARF Milano will be ensuring the models’ locks are luscious throughout all events.

SS17 TOP 3 Trends:

3 trends stood out massively during the mini fashion show we were treated to at the launch event. The first two won’t cause massive surprise as they’ve been leading the way in the fashion stakes over the past couple of seasons but this Spring/Summer they’ve got bolder, stronger and they’re even combining – yas!!

  1. Stripes
  2. Ruffles

I chose to wear a fab little shirt from Daisy&Duke to the launch paired with my favourite pink culottes from my online store ( What I love about this shirt is that it not only combines two of this seasons biggest trends, ruffles and stripes,  it will work just as well with my favourite skinny jeans or a simple black leather skirt.

The 3rd standout trend for SS17 is Yellow. Yip yellow is taking over this season and there is nothing mellow about it. Forget pastel hues and think canary because this spring/summer we aren’t doing things by half in the colour department either.

Director Cathy Martin commented on the season’s key trends: “This season there is a focus on fun with playful colours and bold statements being made everywhere. My favourites among all the trends include the palettes of pinks, yellows and blues, as well as gorgeous ginghams and loads of Beetlejuice-inspired stripes. For eveningwear, there are mesmerizing metallics and sassy sequins which will satisfy all the fashion magpies out there. A feminine feel continues from AW16 with a tap into texture, so there’ll be loads more of romantic ruffles and playful plumes first seen on the Gucci, Chloe and Celine catwalks internationally.”

She added: “We’re looking forward to having some of our regular designers and brands on the runways this season, but we’ve opened up the catwalks to the likes of ASOS, Zara, River Island, H&M and TOPSHOP via our stylist picks at the high street shows and at our wonderful new Style Saturday event. It’s an exciting season for us and I look forward to wowing the audiences with the collections we’ll have on show.”

Can we also just take a moment to appreciate how fabulous both Cathy and co-host the gorgeous Rebecca McKinney looked at the FASHIONWEEK launch event styled by Max Mara on the Lisburn Road Belfast.

We also were treated to a fabulous goodie bag thanks to Fashionweek’s fab partners and sponsors. If you’d like a nosey at what we got gifted I’ll be revealing all over on my snapchat tomorrow evening (monday 30th) username: deec1987

Well I for one cannot wait for the shows this March. Of course I’ll be taking you guys with me on my social media channels where I can if you aren’t able to make it yourselves. However, I’d highly recommend getting tickets and attending at least one of the events on the schedule. West Coast Cooler Fashion week is always such a great, well-run event and a style spectacle not to be missed!

The injection of style inspiration at the launch event in Robinson Cleaver has got me extra excited to add a few more statement pieces to my SS17 wardrobe and you all know I need very little extra persuasion to shop!

Don’t forget if you’d like a little help or advice in adding some of this seasons biggest trends into your wardrobe in ways that will work for your body-shape, personal style and lifestyle, I’m available for personal shopping sessions, wardrobe overhauls and styling consultations –  just get in touch to arrange. I know some trends can be daunting but there are lots of ways of working them into everyone’s wardrobe!

Anyways, I will be blogging in more detail about spring/summer trends and catwalk inspired looks over the coming weeks so keep an eye out. In the mean time I’m off to plan a shopping trip or 6…. roll on March eh ladies!

Love Danielle xx
